Hi Folks! Instead of my previous Feedback-Plugin (aka Guestbook) you can now post your Problems and Ideas here.

I will soon add a less stressing option for you.

Very nice to see a WIKI but I would have preferred to see the long awaited 3.7.

In the meantime users looking for mods that add advanced features to 3.6 can find them at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14371093&posted=1#post14371093 Note: As of 2009 these are obsoleted by the enhancements to 0.4.2 .. see below.

Hi, I would just like to say this is the simplest most effective Wii Media center yet, could just do with some ability to adjust output quality of the video stream quality is too low at present and this is dependant upon each users pc capability to do the trancoding.

So why don't you use the advanced feature mods?

Because of my lack of freetime ;-) But the mods will be included soon.

Outstanding!! I was just about to post that all I want for Xmas is a new WIIdeo Center!! I got my wish! JHB

Hehe, nice :-) And thanks again for your support and documentation for the mods!

So I'm having an issue. I noticed that some default settings have been changed. With the new version the frame rate is bad. With both high and low performance computers. I know settings have been changed to improve video but i still get better frame rate on the old version then the new one. Navigating with the custom profile is well, useless unless you know what you are doing. I love what you have done with the music/photos. But sadly, I need to run the 0.3.X version to watch videos.

If you could post a good encoder option detail page, and what the old version used, that would be great. As well could you add an archive for old wiideo version?

Great work man!

--Sketter 02:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Sketter - It would help us if you would explain how you have determined the frame rates; what you mean by "bad", and "better", and what are the speeds of your computers in each case. We could then suggest some custom settings for you.

My experience with poor frame rate is there seems to be missing frames that make the picture look choppy. Good frame rates is the video seems to play smoothly with no frames missing. I don't know what you really wanted me to say about "bad", and "better". When I stream it from a computer web browser, there isn't any frame rates missing and it plays smoothly. So something is happening when it's being sent to the wii, or at the wii. I'm guessing the Wii since jhb50 ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14371093&posted=1#post14371093 ) in his final post noted; "WII may become overloaded and start discarding frames. When this happens the play will become staccato and look jerky. " However this doesn't seem to happen with what ever the old settings are using. Since the holidays i have been on the road, and only have my duel core 1.66Ghz laptop with me to try it out on a slandered 4:3 tv to use it on.

--Sketter 16:46, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

the new release 0.4.2 now includes the old 0.3.x profile for transcoding.

--Admin 20:12, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

hi, 1st of all ; great program!!

But, is there a way to play videos from a network share (mapped drive on a network disk on my LAN) ?? I keep getting errors from Internet Channel/Opera about 'not enough flash memory' when accessing the share (pictures, videos ...). Thanks, Rob.

EDIT: it seems I can access some shares after all. Could the problem be that some shares have too many files and/or folders ?

Hi Rob,

Network shares do work, but the wii has very limited memory. How many files are in the folder you are selecting when the error occurs?

--Admin 20:15, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

One of the folders has about 450 pics. Folders with 50 - 100 pics (or .mp3 or .avi) work fine ...

It looks like after browsing or accessing folders with many files, folders with not that many files also give the error. Maybe the cache filling up ??

By the way : after reading the above, I changed the transcoding profile to Old version 0.3.x and it looks smoother (no more stops while showing the little rotating icon), but picture quality is not as good as with the fast CPU profile (more pixelated).

-- Rob 12:43, 31 December 2008 (CET)

Hi, I wanted to know how you got the shared network to work? I can' seem to get it.

--Sketter 20:29, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

This looks like it could be really cool! I was trying it out on my PC first though and the pics/music don't seem to work... All I get are 3 tabs that show up at the top of the page with nothing underneath.. Am I doing something wrong?

no, the pics/music only works on firefox/opera or - where it belongs - the wii itself ;-) @sketter: you hast have to map a network drive to a windows share so that you get a drive letter for this share.

--Admin 17:29, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I have posted some significant enhancements to 0.4.2 that greatly improve transcoding and video quality at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15537282#post15537282 Additionally I have posted other changes, that I have made for my own purposes that others may wish to use, and some notes on how the customize profile may be used to experiment on other users systems.

1st things 1st: thanks for the software. A question now, it seems to me that the WiideoCenter always exports to the client the whole file system of the machine where it runs. Is there any way to control what is exported and what not?

Cheers and thanks again

WIIdeoCenter only sends to the WII the video you have chosen to view. It is sent in 20meg "CHUNKS" Transcoded to .flv flash video format by Memcorder so that the Opera Flash Player can display them. You will see a slight pause every few minutes as the next "chunk" starts. The "file system" information you are seeing on the WII is simply an "Explorer" view of the directories and files on your PC which acts as a server to your WII Opera client.

David, I would like to reduce the size of the subtitle text. I have replaced your font file with the Arial font but I have been unable to reduce the size. I tried -font-text-scale=2 as an option in Model but that does not work, and I don't see where to change Executer. Can you point me the way? Thanks. JHB50

@JHB50: first off: not every font is suited for scaling, best would a bitmap font from the mplayer package. the option "-font-text-scale" should be set in Executer.java (plugins/net.homeip.tyrael.wiideocenter.webapp_1.0.0) at around line 233. I hope that helps

Thank you..it works like a charm..new line is: subtitles = " -sub \"" + baseVideoFile.getAbsolutePath() + "\" -font \"" + new File(WiideoUtil.getPluginFolder() + "tools/win32/FreeSerif.ttf").getAbsolutePath() + "\" -subfont-text-scale 3"; //Scale Subtitle to 3% of screen. Changes posted at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15643429#post15643429

@previous poster: right now wiideocenter allows access to all drives and folders, in the upcoming releases there will be a option to only share specific drives/folders.

--Admin 20:06, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

David I believe there is a bug. When transcoding an .mp4 video, the remaining time and the estimated file size stay at 0, and the "overall" bar does not fill. I also note that you set the segment duration for the low profile to 340 seconds rather than the former 360.

I'll have a look into the mp4 transcoding bug. Additionally the segment duration was lowered because the new "low profile" has a higher bitrate than the "old 0.3.x profile".

--Admin 10:25, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

David, my "model" shows both the low , old and original 3 profile use the same 400kbps.. only the keyint was lowered to 30 in the new low.. was this why the drop to 340?

Also, now that WIIdeocenter is working so well, is there any way to get rid of the segments and their delays? PIMPstreamer, http://www.pimpware.org/?page_id=9, plays the full video stream with a steady 100Kbps stream to the WII and no delays. Is there any way for you to use his source code to enhance WIIdeoCenter and make it perfect?? I don't understand the technology well enough to understand why you need to use 20 meg buffer segments and he can feed the video in a steady real time stream. If you PM me on AVS forum perhaps we can dialog this. Thanks. JHB50

Wow, I am now registered as a user so I can add to this feedback page. I continue to make enhancements to WC that are available to other users thru my WIIdeo Center Discussion Thread on AVS forum. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15993101#post15993101 Enjoy.

PS: While David has incorporated many of my enhancements in Release 4, one enhancement that does not work is the volume setting of 4 which I have found distorts the sound badly. Until David corrects this in Release 5, the fix to 4 can be found at the AVS thread.

I have posted a new enhancement which brightens the picture on the WII and reduces the saturation for a more pleasing picture. see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16382629#post16382629

Is the source code available? Is it possible not to transode a video if it is already in .flv format?

Chris

Hi Chris,

yes the sourcecode is available. It is included in the binary download (subdir "src" in each plugin) or just connect to the sourceforge cvs to download the whole source.

MPEG Seeking:

I can't seem to seek to a chapter on an MPEG file. Also, does seeking by clicking on the scrubber in the video player work? I couldn't get that to work on any file. Interesting app. I've done some Servlet programming before, so I will be interested in checking things out and maybe making some improvements of/patches my own.

This is a really awesome program. Thanks. I am having one issue though. I get no file names on my files or folders. any ideas?

--Tolland 19:57, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I am also getting no names on my files and folders using 0.4.3 on window xp home using firefox, by the looks of it the folder name is commented out; <!-- var marquee18 = new Marquee('My Weblog Posts', 18); //-->

Hi is anybody still working on this or is it dead

Very good program, I'm having framerate issues too, but that's not why I want to leave feedback... Is there any way you can make it so that I can open PDFs in the next or later versions of your software? I have a lot of e-books and I don't like having to sit at the computer to read them (I don't have a Kindle or iPad or anything)

hey i just updated the opera browser on my wii and now my movies/music freeze. its kinda strange too because i can still scroll down and hit the play button and it will start up fine where it left off but it gets a little annoying(only for movies). now with the music i just bring up the browser bar and hit stop loading then select another song and this works maybe for two or three more songs then i have to reload the page. i hope you can fix this soon. ive never had a problem with your software before its awesome.
